The Magic Balloon

A story about feeling self conscious / self esteem in children age 6 to 10

In this story, Anne isolates herself from other children because of her low self esteem she feels she is not interesting and fun. But then, after school, she finds herself in a magical land, having to fulfil a couple of tasks. During this challenge, she discovers she can do much more than she thought she could. In the end, Anne feels proud and happy with who she is.

Description

This story is about self esteem in children, being happy with who you are, and discovering the things that you're good at. Children feel a lot of pressure to be smart, cool, fun and good-looking. When looking at other children, they can feel self-conscious, which can hold them back and make children feel lonely. Even though all children struggle with these feelings.

In this story, Anne is feeling different from the other kids in her class, she isolates herself because she feels she is not interesting and fun. She has low self- esteem. On her way back from school, she receives a strange present: a colourful magic balloon. Feeling a bit surprised, Anne takes the balloon, and then finds herself in a magical land, having to fulfil difficult tasks. She is being challenged, and along the way she discovers she can do much more than she thought she could. In the end, Anne feels proud and happy with who she is.
